"using a scanner"

I thought I would do some experiments with my scanner. For my project I want to take simple households items/objects. I want to scan some stuff with lots of texture. I was having my lunch and there was a paper napkin, so as you do I took the napkin and thought well I’ll scan it in. I screwed it up to capture the texture and the creases. I wasn't expecting I would be able to create something that was visually interesting but was pleasantly surprised when I scanned it to find a image with some good shadows and highlights. Ok so you may be thinking what is this bloke going on about, it’s just a napkin? Well do not fear I thought there would be some photoshoping potential in this.

The photo looks really gud! I like the way u have folded the napkin to make it look different. It really stands out. U pleased with it?

Yeah I was pleasantly surprised a napkin could be remotely interesting. The adjustments on Photoshop make it stand out well I think. Almost looks like rock don't you think? What do u think of the symmetrical one?

Yeah the photo does look like a rock a bit. The symmetrical is great and really pretty. You must have been really clever to do that. Bet it wasn't easy?

ill let you into a secret becky, it was easy to do into photoshop, you see with digital photography its not hard to do stuff like that really. Thats besides the point, its was the finished effect looks like, not how hard or easy it is to do

A very good point indeed (must do a blog on that) the hard part fro the photographer/artist is to divorce yourself from the effort involved in producing the image and judge it mearly on its merits artistically.

Yeah I agree with you. But really with a lot of art there just isn't any massive effort evolved so they don't need to divorce themselves from it because there wasn't any effort to start with lol. Therefore a lot of the time meriting it purely for its appearance is easy. A lot of artists can’t accept that their art is simple and requires little skill & effort so it’s elaborated with some ridiculously complicated description even though visually it sucks too lol. Do you find a lot of artwork pretentious Chris?
